The story of "De Dochter van de Korenaar" is one of predestination. A calling to create something beautiful and a vocation to the craft of brewing. Moreover, a desire for independence and self-reliance.
De Dochter van de Korenaar has been brewing specialty beers since 2007. It began with an ambition. To make the finest beer in the world. The road to this has led to quite a few flavors and styles. Perfectly balanced special beers. All with their own story.
History
De Dochter van de Korenaar
#TasteTheStory
The name, "De Dochter van de Korenaar" is synonymous with the word "beer." This poetic appellation does not come from ourselves. Back in the early 16th century, Emperor Charles V, or Charles Quint, had the playful saying, that he loved "the juice of De Dochter van de Korenaar," more than "the blood of the bunch of grapes. In other words, he loved beer more than wine. This not only earned him posthumously, the honor, to be the namesake of our brewery. But Charles V became one of the patrons of the Belgian brewers' guild and is still honored for this to this day.
It all started in France, with the purchase of a Breton house to be renovated. The higher goal was to create a microbrewery, paid for entirely from their own resources. A seven-year renovation project in France preceded this, to eventually sell this property at a profit. Profit that could be used to build their own brewery. As a legacy, each beer bears a French name, an ode to our project in France, where it all began and through which the dream could be realized.
Thanks in part to winning several prestigious awards, the company has experienced tremendous growth. A modern and automated brewery now stands. Where once started in a shed, now stands a company with a capacity of 10,000 HL per year. A success story? Sort of, but also one of hard work.
A special location
With their 30 enclaves - about half of all enclaves in the world - Baarle-Hertog (B) and Baarle-Nassau (NL) are absolute leaders. Baarle is the most unique enclave complex with 22 Belgian and 8 Dutch separate pieces of territory. Our brewery is located in one of those 22 Belgian enclaves of Baarle-Hertog, partly surrounded by Dutch Baarle-Nassau. It is not for nothing that our special village is called "World Capital of Enclaves.
